I went to see DreamGirls on yesterday. (FYI-did you know that Loretta Devine was in the original production? Me either. She played Lorrell. Go here to see a clip of the 1982 performance that includes the "I'm not going" song.).

Because the media hype was mostly about Beyonce's role in the film, I thought that the movie was really going to focus on her. I didn't think that her acting skills were the best, so I wondered how the heck she was going to carry an ENTIRE movie of this caliber. It's obvious that she's worked on her "actressing skills" though. For that, I am grateful.

I was surprised to find that the focus is really mostly on Jennifer Hudson's character. Or at least I cared more about the fate of her character in the movie. Apparently, Jennifer Hudson is supposed to be a novice when it comes to acting in movies.

Coulda fooled me.

She did an amazing job for this to be her first movie gig. She should be very proud of herself.

I loved Jennifer's performance of that "I'm not going" song.

But I must say this:
There's no way. No, No, No, No, way I would be singing my heart out to a low down, cheating man begging him to stay with me. ESPECIALLY if he treated me like that. I'd be singing a different song. One where you'd have to include a parental advisory sticker on the CD case for all the "cussin' him out" I'd be doing. Where I tell him, in no uncertain terms, to kiss where the sun don't shine.
