This one time, in college, I decided that I was going to try to impress a boy with my cooking.
I had a box of Rice-A-Roni. Chicken flavor. He was going to love it just because I made it. And we were going to get married because it was the best damn "meal" he'd ever had. The End.
Did I cook anything else? Nope. Just one big ass skillet of Rice-A-Roni.
When he got to my dorm apartment, I made him taste a spoonful right out of the skillet. He was a MAN, honey, and I'd heard that men like food. So, I didn't want to make him wait.
When he took the first bite, there was crunching. Rice is not supposed to be crunchy.
We didn't get married. San Francisco treat FAIL.
I have since been to rice school, and I now know how to make a superb box o' Rice-A-Roni.
I was working on the sweater I designed for the Shirley Paden "design along" through the "I Love Shirley Paden" group on Ravelry when this story popped into my head. The picture above is a progress shot of the back. She is teaching us to design based on the concepts outlined in her book, Knitwear Design Workshop. She also has a teaching video on Craftsy, Handknit Garment Design, based on her book.
Believe me, even if you're an experienced designer, you can learn a great deal from her.

I bought her book because of you. Even though I don't want to design, it's a fascinating look on how to make a knitted item fit you REALLY well.
This book is excellent. I hope you learn a great deal from it.
